We are seeking an enthusiastic and well-organised Research Assistant to join the group of Professor Matthew Murray () at the Department of Pathology, University of Cambridge to work under the CRUK Cambridge Centre Paediatric Programme ().
This position, funded by the CRUK Cambridge Centre, will help support sample processing for a range of paediatric cancer clinical trials. The successful candidate will work with existing staff to optimise individual standard operating procedures (SOPs) and help strengthen links between clinical trials and research groups in the programme. This research has fundamental translational potential for patients with cancer to improve diagnosis, disease-monitoring and ultimately transform patient outcomes.
Candidates are expected to hold a BSc or MSc degree in Molecular or Cell Biology or a related discipline. Candidates should have experience with sample handling and processing, database curation, tissue culture, and molecular biology techniques including PCR. Prior experience with working at biosafety level 2 is advantageous, but we will be delighted to consider highly-motivated individuals who can demonstrate excellent relevant laboratory skills and a minimum of six months hands-on laboratory experience.
Successful applicants will become an integral and valued member of the group. Responsibilities of the role include basic laboratory maintenance, sample handling and processing, especially linked to paediatric cancer clinic trials, SOP development, PCR, cell culture, appropriate data documentation & analysis. The candidate should have good interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work under their own initiative and present regularly at lab meetings.
