Tetra Tech Europe is an industry leading multi-national and multi-disciplinary consultancy. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Environmental Consultant to join the leadership team in Tetra Tech’s Environment, Sustainability & Planning (ESP) business.Reporting into the Managing Director, the role will focus on the growth and diversification of our Waste & Resource Management team.
We are looking for an experienced and motivated leader who will develop and grow a team of Environmental consultants and specialists to deliver across a variety of projects. The role will involve strategic planning, project management, technical expertise (preferably in Waster and Resource Management), stakeholder engagement and regulatory compliance, and will offer an opportunity to influence and have an impact across the business.
Our WRM team has established workloads and an excellent reputation, with high technical standards, and thought leadership through involvement in industry working groups, presentations and conferences. With energy, insight and the right strategic leadership, the team offers a solid position on which to develop and build an exciting future alongside the other parts of ESP.
Responsibilities:
1. Leadership and Management:
·Provide strategic direction and leadership to the WRM team, setting goals and objectives aligned with Tetra Tech’s strategy for growth and business improvement.
·Inform the direction of the team to align with the business strategy and market conditions.
·Manage and mentor a team of WRM consultants to facilitate their professional growth and development and contribute to the development of colleagues in associated teams.
·Allocate resources effectively, monitor project progress, and focus on timely delivery of high-quality WRM reports, permit applications, compliance and monitoring, and other deliverables.
2. Project Management:
·Oversee the planning, scoping, and execution of WRM projects and associated documents for a range of purposes, ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines.
·Develop project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation plans to allow efficient project delivery.
·Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate team and project activities and resolve any issues or conflicts that may arise. This includes with ESP management and financial support teams.
3. Technical Expertise:
·Provide expert guidance and support to the WRM team (including supporting services) in conducting comprehensive environmental impact assessments, including data collection, analysis, and impact prediction.
·An understanding of technical considerations for other environmental teams would be an advantage.
·While our preference is for an environment leader with WRM expertise, we will consider other technical specialisms where a sound understanding of environmental consultancy can be demonstrated.
·Stay up-to-date with and ahead of the latest industry trends, methodologies, and regulatory requirements, and use this knowledge to inform the technical direction of the WRM team.
·Review and ensure the accuracy, quality, and completeness of technical assessments conducted by the team.
4. Stakeholder Engagement:
·Engage and collaborate with stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, NGOs, and project developers, to facilitate effective communication and address queries.
5. Regulatory Compliance:
·Ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and guidelines throughout WRM related processes.
·Keep abreast of changes in environmental legislation and regulations and proactively update internal processes, procedures and strategies accordingly.
·Liaise with regulatory authorities and assist clients in navigating the permitting and regulatory approval process.
6. Business Development:
·Identify and pursue business development opportunities to expand the WRM team portfolio.
·Build and maintain relationships with internal and external clients, industry partners, and regulatory agencies to foster collaboration and secure new projects.
·Prepare proposals, participate in client presentations, and contribute to the development of marketing strategies to promote the organisation's WRM services.
Requirements:
·A degree in Environmental Sciences, or a related field. A postgraduate degree is preferred.
·Extensive experience in Environmental Consultancy, and preferably WRM, with a track record of successfully managing a diversity of projects across sectors.
·In-depth knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and guidelines at local and national levels. International knowledge would be an advantage.
·Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
·Excellent project management abilities, including budgeting, resource allocation, and risk management.
·Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and negotiate with diverse stakeholders.
·Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to solve complex environmental problems.
·Professional membership of an appropriate body is desirable.
