As a Barclays Financial Control and Regulatory Accountant, you will have the opportunity to play a critical finance role for our Portuguese Branch. In this role, the focus will be on the local regulatory reporting deliverables, with preparation and review of our entity general ledgers, associated processes, and branch returns. You will have high accountability and ownership in this opportunity as well as addressing regulatory changes, implementing the necessary amendments in the local regulatory reporting process.

What will you be doing?
• Being responsible for the reviewing and filing accurate financial information to our regulator, Barclays Group, and other authorities
• Managing the general ledgers including executing controls, adjustments, reconciliation and review to ensure integrity across all associated reporting therefrom
• Coordinating intercompany and accounts payable activities for the branch
• Receiving and replying to queries from the regulator, tax authorities and Barclays Group
• Acknowledging and implementing changes in regulations and laws, assess against our current reporting and help in building a response to ensure compliance
• Engagement with Project work and continual process optimisation
• Interacting with internal stakeholders within the Barclays Group (Europe and Worldwide) and also external stakeholders such as the Bank of Portugal
What we’re looking for:
• A University Degree in Business Administration or Accounting would be preferred, as well as further education in Economics and or Accounting
• Fluency in Portuguese and English languages and used these languages while working in the Banking/Finance industry
• Excellent organisational skills and a flexible and proactive work style with proven ability to meet tight timelines consistently
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management skills, and ability to work towards creating robust relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
Skills that will help you in the role:
• Ideally a Portuguese certified accountant to assist in branch submissions, experience in preparing, reviewing and submitting EMF, FinRep, EIS and tax compliance returns
• Previous experience in a Financial Control or Regulatory Reporting function with knowledge of Portuguese IFRS accounting standards, as well as regulatory and tax rules
• Experience in financial and regulatory systems architecture and familiar tools used SAP, Excel, analytical/problem solving mindset with focus on controls
• Comfortable performing analysis at a granular level of detail to ensure our deliverables are high quality, accurate and on time
