Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
Scottish Water provides an essential service to local communities across the country – providing a reliable supply of fresh water to homes and business, and protecting our environment by treating and managing waste water.
We’re looking for an Electrical Craftsperson to join our Engineering and Maintenance team in Dumfries, to help us keep our operational sites running smoothly.
What you’ll do
You’ll be working as part of a team to install, maintain and repair the assets that power our water, waste water and distribution networks.
You’ll use your core electrical craft skills, as well as your mechanical knowledge to resolve technical issues and find solutions.
You’ll be able to use your knowledge of 3-phase and single-phase equipment, including fault finding and diagnosis, overload setting, maintenance to motors, motor starters, generators, variable speed drives, instrumentation and calibration of process equipment., resetting of automation equipment and variable speed drive parameter setting.
On the mechanical front, you can expect to do some general maintenance of pumps, valves, gearboxes, electrical interface hydraulics and pneumatics, fitting, pipe disconnections, etc.
Safety is paramount. And it’s important that you take it as seriously as we do. It is essential that you take all necessary steps to protect yourself and others, including risk assessments, choosing appropriate equipment and following safe working practices.
You’ll work closely with our Workflow team to plan and coordinate resources across the region, with the shared goal of delivering an effective and cost-efficient response to incidents, reactive or planned work.
What you’ll bring
You will have served a recognised Electrical apprenticeship and preferably be 17th/18th edition trained - and bring other qualifications in mechanical or electrical engineering.
Some of our sites are in remote areas, so it’s important that you have a full UK driving license.
This role will require some occasional Out of Hours working. So you’ll be added to our standby rota to be called out in case of emergencies.
You’ll be a good communicator, and happy to collaborate with others to resolve issues, keep people updated and always ensure the best possible service for the local community.
Looking out for you
While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy up to five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take time off to volunteer in your community.
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.
For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), and life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
