Adult Mental Health Nurses

Overview of Services
Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services (ADRS)
As a Mental Health nurse working within ADRS you will be at the forefront of providing recovery focused, dignified and person-centred care to this vulnerable and highly complex service user group. Under the supervision of senior nursing colleagues, you will work alongside people with alcohol dependence and substance misuse. This requires sensitivity, patience and a commitment to advocate for a person that may have a poorer experience when accessing health and social care. You will work with people, their families and carers to reduce harm and promote recovery.
ADRS is made up of integrated multi-disciplinary teams within a range of community and inpatient services who work closely with all statutory services, third sector organisations and local communities. ADRS provides evidence based person centred care, harm reduction interventions and treatment approaches including medication assisted therapy, detoxification and psychological support.
Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
CAMHS nurses have a unique role in developing meaningful therapeutic relationships with young people and their families. Under the supervision of senior nursing colleagues you will provide specialist support and care to the young person that will empower them to effectively manage their thoughts and feelings as they navigate through their recovery journey.
CAMHS nurses have a key multi-disciplinary team role in the assessment planning, direct intervention and sign posting for young people and their families at critical and delicate times in their lives.
Forensic Mental Health Services
As a Forensic Mental Health nurse you will play a unique role in providing care and treatment to some of the most vulnerable and disenfranchised service users from Glasgow, across Scotland and beyond. Providing services across community and low to medium secure rehabilitation units, Forensic Mental Health nurses have a key role working alongside mentally disordered offenders to manage and mitigate risk and to support them to achieve recovery focused outcomes. Under the supervision of senior nursing colleagues you will be supported to develop your skills and competence in this unique and vital public protection role.
Mental Health Services
Mental Health nursing within NHS GG&C is a demanding, satisfying and fulfilling career choice. With the opportunity to work, develop and grow your career across a diverse range of services including community and inpatient settings.
Community Mental Health (Adult/Older People) - As an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team, you will work in a recovery focused, collaborative way, delivering compassionate care that upholds the values of NHS GG&C Mental Health nursing. Under the supervision of senior colleagues, you will develop your skills in formulation, implementation and evaluation of person centred, recovery focused care.
Inpatient Mental Health (Adult/Older People) – There will be times when people require enhanced levels of care and treatment meaning they will need an admission to our Mental Health inpatient wards. As an inpatient nurse you will play a vital role walking alongside our service users and their families as they progress through their recovery journey. This role requires sensitivity, resilience and skill and under the supervision of senior nursing staff you will have the opportunity to develop your competence and play a central role in the provision of safe, effective and person-centred nursing care.
Prison Health Care
NHS GG&C provides health care for four establishments: HMP Barlinnie, HMP Low Moss, HMP Greenock and The Lilias Centre.
Evidence tells us people in prison are known to be more vulnerable and experience poorer and more health inequalities than the wider population. As a Prison Health Care Mental Health nurse you will work alongside this vulnerable population to provide evidence based, recovery focused interventions to deliver a better experience of health care and improved longer term health outcomes. There are opportunities for Mental Health nurses in our Mental Health Care and Addictions teams and you will enjoy a fulfilling role within this diverse and dynamic working environment.
Addictions Team - provides care and treatment including: assessing and managing withdrawal from alcohol and substance misuse, opiate replacement therapy, detox, alcohol protective medications, psychosocial support and harm reduction, trauma informed care including safety and stabilisation and providing support to senior colleagues delivering care to patients with complex co morbidity and dual diagnosis presentations.
Mental Health Team - provides care and treatment for people living with Mental Health needs including: specialist Mental Health assessment including clinical risk assessment and management, supporting multi-disciplinary colleagues/senior nursing staff in the delivery of structured clinical management, multi-disciplinary liaison for patients requiring hospital admission and monitoring of high dose antipsychotic treatments.
Primary Care Team - Mental Health nurses work closely with Primary Care nursing colleagues to support delivery of the physical health agenda and contribute to core nursing duties throughout the day. The Primary Care Team are often the first to respond to medical emergencies as well as providing a diverse range of treatments and interventions. These range from one off appointments and investigations to ongoing care including chronic disease and long term condition management, wound care and palliative care.
