A Synthetic Organic chemist is urgently required to work closely with R&D teams to help drive the development of new technology platforms, deliver research & development programs and support the introduction of new prototypes and products to customer. This team offers an opportunity for an experienced organic chemist or polymer chemist to tackle a range of technical challenges offering chances to grow and develop and learn about a key area of the business. As a synthetic organic chemist you will bring skills in synthetic organic chemistry to help drive R&D for New Technologies in line with strategy
Key responsibilities
Manage the technical aspect of short & long term new technology development projects, the scope of which will span across areas such as adhesives, Composites, polymers and into completely new business areas.
Visit University Departments to contribute towards externally funded research projects (i.e. Masters, PhDs, CDTs etc).
Where new chemistry is required/utilised, contribute specialised knowledge, towards risk assessments, safely and diligently carry out the work and work closely with HSE, Engineering and Manufacturing teams to ensure best routes to manufacture.
Have a working knowledge of intellectual property and non-disclosures of sensitive information
Have a working knowledge of chemical regulations, in particular REACh, and work closely with the regulatory team at all stages of product development
Skills and knowledge in synthetic organic chemistry can be applied where particular reactions are needed or where problems arise that are not solvable via the usual routes.
Be available to work on more standard polymer chemistry reactions/projects as and when required.
Specialist Generalist and contribution towards resin, emulsion or compounding chemistry projects is anticipated.
Keep up to date with relevant conferences, patents, publications.
Present new research techniques and analytical methods to Group R&D via Teach-Ins or through project reviews.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Required:
BSc, MSc, PhD -Organic chemistry, Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry or a related subject.
Experience with across Adhesives or Composites or Speciality Polymers essential
Strong scientific background with extensive experience of working in a laboratory is preferred
Strong commitment to HSE and quality values
Strong sense of urgency and able to drive work forward to meet targets and timelines
Effective multi-tasking, prioritisation and time-management skills
Competent user of data analysis packages and word processing software
