SOFTWARE ENGINEERING MANAGER – 6 MONTHS – HOME BASED Seeking a Software Engineering Manager to be based from home who will be responsible for the Software Elements of projects and work packages for high integrity software intensive systems. You will not only manage the workload and work packages, but you will also be a responsible for driving the team and the personalities involved so its fully integrated. The role requires a proactive approach combined with good work package management and communication skills to enable meeting quality, budget and schedule milestones. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of successfully delivering challenging and complex software developments 7yrs. Experience of Agile and incremental software development approaches is essential. AT THE COAL FACE TASKS / RESPONSIBILITIES Prepare work packages based on bid estimates and defined Scope of Work (SOW) using top-down and bottom up estimates. Define, coordinate and plan work package activities ensuring they are always correctly resourced. Monitor work package Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to ensure cost, schedule and quality is always maintained against agreed standards. Maintain Supply (forward load) information for the Software function. Conduct regular reporting on work package progress to Bid Manager / Project Manager/ Software Discipline Manager as appropriate. Identify and manage schedule/planning risks/issues associated with the software engineering activities and escalate as appropriate. Manage the work package against the defined SOW, actively manage any variance re-estimating as necessary. Support the project change management process with the evaluation and quantification of project change affecting the SOW via Baseline Change Requests (BCRs). Closes the work package (archiving of documents, closing of the expenditure authorisations) by capitalising and sharing on lessons learnt. Regularly organise communication meetings within the team to keep them informed of developments on the project and to maintain motivation and engagement. Own and manage top-down and bottom-up estimating models for the function. Support internal monthly WP reviews focussed on performance v earned value. Support functional process reviews looking at general performance against WP (historical view). Develop and clarify the detailed scope of work for the software delivery team. Ensure timely delivery and quality of system level artefacts such as requirements, architecture and standards required to enable efficient delivery of software. Responsible for the production of the Chorus 2.0 compliant Software Development Plan (SDP) ensuring that the processes captured within the SDP & SEMP are adhered to. Participate in the definition of the architecture and the allocation of functions, to the components for which they have primary responsibility working closely with the Software Architect. Ensure cost effective reuse of product elements and code objects. Collects and analyses defect reports. Ensure strong relationships with design and test teams exist to ensure that the handover from design to software development is efficient and that testing activities follow on cleanly from the development cycle.
