Costain helps to improve people’s lives by deploying technology-based engineering solutions to meet urgent national needs across the UK’s energy, water and transportation infrastructures. Costain were appointed by Highways England to deliver two of the three sections of the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon Improvement Scheme as part of a Joint Venture (JV). The JV will complete two packages totalling circa £600 million of work. The A14 Improvement Scheme is required to enhance the capacity and reliability of the UK strategic road network in order to ensure better journeys for road users. Stretching over 25 miles, the works will improve this highly congested stretch of road. Initial design work will commence immediately with the development of detailed plans for the delivery phase, which commenced late 2016. The road will be open to traffic in 2020, with the works in Huntingdon town being completed after. Please note that this role is based in Section 5 (Milton)Promote continuous improvement of environmental sustainability performance on the A14 project by fulfilling the duties of an Environmental Adviser.Be familiar with and promote current environmental legislation including best practices relevant to the A14. Participate in the development, regular review and update of the A14 Environmental Management System.Provide advice, support and assistance to all A14 project personnel to enable them to manage their environmental and responsibilities.Assist in the development and delivery of suitable environmental and sustainability training for all project staff.Represent and promote the Environment Department in meetings, workshops, management reviews and forums.Raise environment/sustainability awareness and community relations awareness (where appointed)Carry out site inspections and ensure legal compliance to applicable environmental legislation is maintained.Support external liaison with regulators i.e. Environment Agency, Local Authorities etc.Ad hoc duties as job requires. Participate in reviewing the construction environmental management plan.
