An experienced polymers chemist is urgently required to work closely with Business Development and R&D teams to help drive the development of new technology platforms, deliver research & development programs and support the introduction of new prototypes and products to customers.
As senior polymers chemist you will drive the technical elements of product development for the Speciality Additives business and technologies, including synthesis and application of specialty products, specialty polyester synthesis and new application areas.
Key responsibilities
To drive the technical elements of product development for the Speciality Additives business and technologies, including synthesis and application of specialty polyester synthesis and new application areas.
Coordinates technical work associates with multiple projects with responsibility for delivery of technical work packages and assigned project objectives. Can lead technically focussed projects.
Has a detailed understanding in specific related technical areas, in particular polyester resin coating and organic synthesis, and is able to both apply this knowledge effectively and bring new thinking to the organisation in these areas.
To make recommendations for new development projects and potential new application areas in consultation with Technical and Commercial colleagues.
Works closely with Commercial team (especially Technical Service Manager and Product Manager) to provide application and formulation data to support new and existing business.
To take day to day responsibility for laboratory safety, particularly around the handling and use of Butadienene and organometallic reagents. Ensure that all personnel act in accordance with company’s SHE directive’s.
Plan, delver and administer projects or work packages through new Product Development system, including pilot and production phases to launch.
Provide expert support to Operations, Commercial and Customers related to the chemistry, processing and application of the companies’ products.
To develop a comprehensive understanding of products and applications for potential technology synergies.
To support the development and training of laboratory personnel to ensure the company’s high standards are maintained.
Lead and manage direct reports to ensure a high quality of day-to-day work output (if applicable)
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Required:
BSC, MSc, PhD Chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Science, or a related subject.
Performance polymers and/or polyester coatings sector/ polymer additives.
