Senior Analytical Chemist (Inorganic) Location: South East, United Kingdom

A senior inorganic analytical chemistry analyst is urgently required for an expanding organisation to prepare and perform chemical analysis using chromatography e.g. LC-MS (or LC-MS-MS), and GC-MS in accordance with the Laboratory Management System and directly report to the Chemistry Manager.
The key purpose of this role is to perform, and provide advice and assistance to a small team of analytical staff undertaking chemical analysis using Colorimetry, Spectrophotometry and Chromatography analysis in accordance with the Laboratory Management System.
The role will work in a team of two Senior Analysts. They will have similar responsibilities for organisation of the Inorganic Chemistry section, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting on all instrumentation, authorisation of data produced by Inorganic Analysts, departmental stock control and ordering. They will also carry out annual appraisals, target setting and work performance of team members and assist the Senior Chemist with validation and development of analytical methods.
Main responsibilities will include:
Responsibility for day to day organisation and prioritisation of sample workload through the Inorganic Chemistry section;
Report to the Chemistry Manager on all chemistry/personnel issues;
Responsibility for preventative maintenance on instrumentation;
Organisation of training of staff on all relevant laboratory methods;
Responsible to ensure all Inorganic chemical analysis is carried out in accordance with the Management System;
Ensure data is accurately entered into the Laboratory Information Management System within set timeframe;
Authorisation of data of subordinates and ensure all work is carried out to meet quality requirements;
To notify internally any issues relating to quality control of the analysis;
Develop and Validate new analytical methods
To prepare solutions and chemicals in accordance with company internal procedures;
Quality Auditor of internal practices to ensure compliance to the management system.
Conduct yearly appraisals of relevant staff members, target setting and assessment of work performance;
Ensure use of equipment and chemicals are documented to allow adequate stock control
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Background in Chemistry preferable to degree level.
Have existing knowledge of good laboratory practice, routine analysis and instrument maintenance and troubleshooting gained via previous practical laboratory experience.
Hold excellent numeracy, literacy, computer literacy and analytical skills these are an essential requirement
Analytical experience in LC-MS, LC-MS-MS OR GC-MS plus experience in BOD, IC, TOC and automated colour metric analysis techniques for environmental analysis.
Knowledge of working to UKAS
