Becoming a Deputy Head of Programme and Project Management Practice with Capita DCC
Reporting to the Head of Programme and Project Management practice, the role of Deputy Head of Programme and Project Management practice comprises both delivery and leadership responsibilities. Delivery responsibility in a matrix environment, which may vary dependant on the programme assignment, will be at a senior level and support a programme to deliver against its strategic vision and remain aligned with the wider objectives of DCC. Leadership responsibility for a team of programme and project managers within the PPM practice; establishing operational goals, objectives, work plans and delegating assignments through both line and matrix managed teams.
What youll be doing:
Ensure your teams adhere to agreed standards and ways of working, for example use of Programme and Project Management artefacts and processes, Change Delivery Methodology and close and collaborative working with other practices, the Portfolio Office and Programme Management Office to strengthen delivery governance
Engender a culture of continuous improvement that promotes enhanced quality and cost reductions by developing programme and project management capabilities and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the practice
Promote a matrix management approach to effectively and efficiently deliver programme, projects and internal practice initiatives
As a member of the PPM Practice leadership team, evangelise, deliver and change manage the use of both Waterfall and Agile methods and Software Delivery Life Cycle Management tools and processes relevant to the Programme and Project Management practice to support improved efficiency and effectiveness
Direct, supervise, and control the execution of DCC projects to assure delivery of Service Providers or internal technological/systems/product projects to agreed scope, quality, cost and timescales:
establish milestones and drive the completion of activities track delivery of draft and final products for adherence to contractual obligations
What were looking for:
An experienced programme leader with a minimum of 6 years relevant experience in programme delivery managing large business change and technical projects, including hands-on delivery of technology-enabled system integration projects and programmes. 3+ years of which will be at a senior manager level
Experience of identifying and successfully implementing improvements to working practices
Significant experience in leading, directing and coaching others to consistently deliver high quality services both through direct line management and matrix arrangements by exercising situational leadership of virtual multidisciplinary teams
Ability to rapidly assimilate issues and address complex situations
Clear understanding of the importance of effective programme and project management, how it is typically undertaken and governed, and its direct role in achieving successful delivery and benefits realisation
Excellent communications skills, written and verbal with the capability to listen, influence and effectively communicate and present complex proposals and reports at all levelsAppreciation of the Smart Metering industry, and/or previous experience working in a regulated environment or government department
Development of policy/strategy positions in the utilities sector
Development of complex business cases
Ability to review/challenge management accounts
Fluent in software engineering processes with considerable software release experience
About The Data Communications Company (DCC)
The Data Communications Company (DCC) is a wholly owned subsidy of Capita. DCC operates under the Smart Meter Communication Licence which was granted by the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and is regulated by Ofgem. The licence allows DCC to establish and manage the smart metering data and communications infrastructure.
DCC is responsible for the delivery of the shared infrastructure needed for energy suppliers to roll out 53 million electricity and gas smart meters across the UK. DCC is responsible for managing the smart metering service on behalf of its users and contracts with, and manages, the data and communications service providers.
The smart metering service infrastructure is delivered by our Service Providers – two Communications Services Providers, Arqiva and Telefnica, and a Data Services Provider, CGI.
The Programme and Project Management practice sits within the Service Delivery function which is responsible for managing DCCs end-to-end delivery through a structured governance process, on time, within budget and to the required standards for successful in-life operations.
