Chemist (Materials Science/ Product development/ Polymer )Location: Midlands, United Kingdom
As a chemist for a leading organisation you will apply your technical knowledge to assist product and business managers to assist in the technical support of polymer products to clients. With a background in science and an understanding of the products, you will be working with R&D and production on new product developments for long term development work within the Polymer Development team. As a chemist with polymers experience you will work with new and modified products, and provide technical support to the businesses and their customers in the areas within the job holders expertise.
Full training given could suit a graduate with some experience in the lab.
Key Responsibilities
To plan, organise and carry out work supporting short and long term development activities within agreed timescales and according to the plan for the Formulated Materials Development department.
To use experience and formulation knowledge to fully contribute to project planning, to make suggestions for problem solving or to allow development of new ideas for new or existing applications.
To maintain accurate records and report data according to department processes and procedures, so as to ensure traceability of results and hence meet ISO9000 standards. To be able to create reports that can be used outside R&D, when necessary and appropriate.
To ensure good communication and liaise with other sections of the R&D function (Polymer Development and Technical Service) and, when required, be able to communicate and liaise with the commercial teams or directly with customers.
To liaise with the pilot plant and manufacturing plants and to be able to support a product scale up process, where necessary and appropriate.
Qualifications / Experience
A degree or equivalent qualification (Chemistry / Materials/ polymer chemistry).
Experience of working in a R&D environment (desirable no essential)
Experience of working in the manufacturing (preferably chemical) industry.
Strong technical background and knowledge.
Knowledge of polymers or adhesives desirable
PC and internet proficient, with advanced Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills.
