The MS Research Group is focused on delivering innovative instrument capabilities of benefit to analysts in the research market segment, with a view to future evaluation and adoption in the routine analytical markets. The key purpose of this role is to support the development of critical capabilities through the design and development of electronics within the group.  The role will be working within a highly dynamic, small-team environment where multi-tasking and flexible thinking will be critical. As such, the ability to apply skills in other technical disciplines, such as mechanical engineering, are highly desired. The role will form an integral part of the Research team, and the successful candidate will be expected to make significant contributions in defining and delivering ideas that support the future success of the Company.Assisting in the capture of design requirements; Writing functional specifications; Designing circuitry, programmable logic and microcontroller software; Evaluating prototypes; Performing analysis and simulation; Conducting and assisting in Design Reviews. Peer-review of engineering documentation, ECRs and designs.Provide technical guidance to other engineers where they may lack the breadth of experience required to apply the optimum solution to a problem. Propose solutions to future-proof company products. Identify any new technologies that could be useful. Develop prototypes to prove new concepts. Provide technical support for production and service queries Conduct investigations into product quality or manufacturability problems, and implement any necessary changes, in a timely manner. Keep abreast of developments in electronics and instrumentation. Attend any exhibitions seminars or training courses deemed appropriate. Comply with all workplace related regulations (e.g. Health & Safety at Work, COSHH and the Working Time Directive) Undertake any other reasonable duty as defined by the Company Degree in electrical/electronic engineering or equivalent combination of qualification and experienceExtensive experience in the design of electronic products An understanding of the principles and techniques of Mass Spectrometry Highly self-motivated and enthusiastic Excellent communication, analysis and decision making skills Ability to interact and contribute in a team environment In addition to salary, we work flexibly and provide 25 days holidays, excellent family friendly benefits such as attractive employer pension contribution, life assurance, income protection and private medical.
