Every role across the Trust plays it”s part in transforming our canals and rivers into spaces where local people want to spend time and feel better, bringing wellbeing benefits to millions.Due to the increase in construction activities, an excellent opportunity for a Civil Engineer has arisen within Infrastructure Services Team, Southern Region based in Birmingham. The area to be covered will predominantly be West Midlands Region. The teams function is to help promoters achieve their objectives, transform the waterways and enrich lives, while at the same time protecting our customers, infrastructure, buildings, heritage and waterway environment from harm or damage that could result from the promoter’s work. The team recovers fees and charges which go to support the work of the Trust, and handles approximately 300 different schemes per year offering a completely varied work load.The team links with other teams within the Trust on behalf of the developer to find the necessary solutions to undertake works that will, where possible, enhance the waterway and environment. The RoleEnsure Trust”s assets and operations are protected from Third Party engineering works and activities, ensuring full compliance with the Code of Practice for Works Affecting Trust.Record and recover Trust staff costs and fees in accordance with agreed rates and corporate systems.Provide technical support to our internal specialist teams by working efficiently to defined standards and procedures to ensure conservation and protection of the condition of the waterway assets.To protect interests including; customer service standards, environment and heritage.Liaise with internal teams including estates, operations and environmental, to ensure the internal consultation processes are met.Promote early involvement, safety and recover costs from third party projects.Comply with Canal & River Trust Health & Safety policy and defined standards. Report incidents, accidents and near misses.Using SAP and GIS systems, ensure all relevant information and analysis is input in a timely and accurate manner.Provide engineering advice and support to third parties and internal teams, to assist in the resolution of engineering-related situations.Contribute technical advice covering feasibility, detailed design and build-ability of third party projects taking account of Canal & River Trust standards and external standards including heritage and environmental issues.Provide a point of contact for technical queries internally and externally. Respond as appropriate by providing advice and reference to relevant information sourcesSkills & ExperienceCivil Engineering Degree or equivalent in relevant technical discipline.Membership of relevant professional body at an appropriate level e.g. IEng, AMICE, etc.Proven experience in assessing infrastructure risk.Proven experience of inspecting / delivering engineering activities.Good communication and negotiation skills are essentialAble to provide a good standard of written communication and proven ability to present technical data to non-technical audiences.Valid driving licence appropriate for vehicle to be drivenAs this role will require you to move about our network of offices to provide support as required, the salary for the post is £34,680 including allowances.
